Addis Ababa, May 15, 2023 (FBC) – The late Artist Hirut Bekele’s body was laid to rest earlier today in Addis Ababa today.
Hirut, who was born on October 8, 1943, played hundreds of musical works to listeners from the beginning of the 1950s to the end of the 1990s.
She has played and contributed many works with Dahlak, Dashen and Walias Bands, served in the music and theater department of the contemporary Ethiopian Police Force for about 35 years.
She has played more than 200 songs in those 35 years. It is also noted that among her musical works, more than 38 songs were printed on clay and more than 14 albums were recorded on cassette.
She has received various high awards from abroad and within the country, including from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Hirut Bekele was the mother of seven children, the grandmother of 10, and the great-grandmother of seven children.
It is known that Artist/Singer Hirut passed away on Friday May 12 after receiving medical treatment in Ethiopia and abroad. Her body was laid to rest today at Petros-wo-Paulous church.
