ARRA intensifies efforts to ensure safety and protection of Refugees in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, February 11, 2021 (FBC) – Agency for Refugees and Returnees Affairs (ARRA) announced that it has been working aggressively in improving services for Eritrean Refugees sheltered in Tigray Regional State.

Director General of ARRA, Tesfahun Gobezay said that the government has given priority to discharging its international obligations in maintained peace and stability among refugees in the country.

In an interview with EBC, the Director General said government is giving due concern in order to safeguard safety and protection of refugees thereby fulfill its international obligations.

Tesfahun added that the agency has conducted discussions with the military in the command post operating in areas where camps are located to ensure that the safety of refugees is safeguarded in a proper manner.

“We have established a communication system with the military and the command post to keep updated about basic issues regarding their safety”, he noted.

Ethiopia has been properly implementing the Comprehensive Refugees Response Framework in line with enabling refugees participate in various social and economic activities in the country.

Agency said misinformation circulating by apologists of TPLF as if Ethiopia is mishandling Eritrean refugees is groundless adding that it has implementing several  mechanisms to ensure wellbeing of all refugees in the country.

An Eritrean Refugee in Ethiopia, Priest Ekuban Michael, saying that he has been living in Ethiopia for 10 years, witnessed that the government has supported him in many aspects.

Ethiopia is the second largest refugees hosting country in the world that has been sheltering close to 1 Million refugees in its several camps across the nation.
