Addis Ababa, September 23, 2024 (FBC) – Arba-Minch University, a renowned educational institution in Ethiopia, has launched a Forensic Investigation Center, according to the South Ethiopia regional state police department. The center, designed to streamline forensic services and enhance efficiency in police operations, has officially gone operational earlier today.
Mr. Abayneh Abera, the head of Gamo Zone of South Ethiopia region, emphasized the significance of the center, highlighting its potential to save time and energy by eliminating the need for traveling to another area for forensic services. This, in turn, is expected to expedite police work and contribute to the overall effectiveness of law enforcement efforts.
During the launch event, the Vice President of Arba-Minch University, Hailu Merdokiyos, expressed his institution’s commitment to fostering a new generation of citizens equipped with contemporary and advanced skills.
In a coordinated effort with the judicial bodies of the South Ethiopia region, the construction of the Forensic Investigation Center’s sample reception center was also completed and opened for service today.
This development marks a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to enhance forensic capabilities and strengthen law enforcement practices. The forensic lab’s operationalization is expected to have a profound impact on the region’s criminal justice system, ensuring faster turnaround times for forensic analysis and facilitating more efficient investigations.
