Addis Ababa, July 6, 2023 (FBC) – Arba Minch City Football Club have been relegated from Ethiopian Premier League, following a 1-1 draw in their last match of the season against Hawasa City Football Club.
Following the result, Arba Minch City was relegated to the lower division with 34 points. On the other hand, Wolkite City avoided relegation with 35 points after their match against Adama City has ended in a 1-1 draw today.
In today’s match, Arba Minch City had several scoring opportunities through their strikers Eric Kapaito, Ahmed Hussen, Melaku Elias and Butaka Shamena. However, Hawassa City’s goalkeeper Alazar Markos has denied them with some high profile saves.
Arba Minch City, otherwise known as the Crocodiles, became the third club to go down to the lower league from the country’s premier club football competition. Ethio Electric FC and Legetafo-Legedai FC are the other clubs who have been relegated to the second division.
Recall that Saint George S.C have been crowned champions of the 2022/23 season last week and secured a place in next year’s AFCON Champions League competition. On the other hand, second-placed Bahir Dar City also confirmed their spot in next season’s AFCON Confederations Cup competition. It will be their debut season in a continental clubs completion for the Waves of [Lake] Tana, Bahir Dar City FC.
