Addis Ababa, December 29, 2023 (FBC) – The Amhara Regional State Tourism Bureau announced preparations for the forthcoming ‘Gena’ and “Timket” festivals which will be marked on 7 and 20 January respectively.
The Regional Tourism Bureau Head, Tahir Mohammed, exclusively told FBC that ample preparations are underway to celebrate the two public festivals in a way that preserves the religious and traditional values of the holidays.
The bureau is working with stakeholders and respective committees are formed in the areas where the festivals are celebrated in unique and spectacular manner to facilitate better conditions for guests and tourist to attend the religious events.
While explaining about attributes of the celebration of the festivals in attendance of huge congregations including large number of foreign tourists, the Head pointed out that ‘Gena’ or the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus Christ will be uniquely marked in the historical town of Lalibela as Timket or the Baptism of Jesus Christ is going to be observed in historical city of Gondar and Minjar Shenkora district.
Holidays including the Agew Equestrian and Ghion festivals will be celebrated in Injibara and Sekela towns respectively, Tahir added.
Special preparations are being carried out jointly with the Ethiopian Airlines and Hotels to create a more favorable condition and facilitate better services for foreign tourists who are coming to the country to attend the festivals, he stated.
