Ambassador Nasise briefs Canadian companies on PPP in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, March 27, 2021 (FBC) – A Business Forum that aimed at showcasing Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Ethiopia for Canadian companies was held virtually yesterday. The forum was organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Canada in collaboration with Canada-Africa Chamber of Business.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Canada, Nasise Challi tabled detailed information on the immense investment opportunities in Ethiopia and elaborated available areas of cooperation.

She said that the PPP Model of project financing and implementation is given high priority by the government, she noted, adding that efforts are underway to make Ethiopia an attractive destination for Canadian companies which seeks not only to invest in Ethiopia but also enter into the wider African market by using Ethiopia as an entry point.

On the other hand, M & C commodities, a Canada based company known for agro-processing and production of edible oil has conducted a virtual pre-investment visit to Ethiopia on Friday. The visit was organized by Ethiopian Embassy in Canada and Business Directorate General at Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Representatives of M & C stressed their interest to further explore the available potential for joint venture with Ethiopian investors in this sector and enter into operation at the earliest possible time.

Ethiopia offers for investment in agro-processing sectors particularly the demand-supply gap of edible oil in the large market of more than 100 million people, it is stated on the occasion.

They also expressed their appreciation for the elaborate presentation which enabled them to learn about the enormous untapped investment potential in Ethiopia.

Participants further showed interest to tap into the existing investment potential and take part in available PPP opportunities in Ethiopia, according to Embassy of Ethiopia in Canada.

In related story, Ambassador Nasise briefed Rachael Harder, Member of Parliament of Canada for Lethbridge and Cathay Wagantall, Member of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs in the parliament on latest developments in Ethiopia including the situation in Tigray, Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute, the trilateral negation on GERD and the upcoming 6th national elections.

Both appreciated the ambassador for the update and promised that they will follow up the issues closely, support the positive developments happening in Ethiopia, and to play their part in further strengthening ties between Ethiopia and their country.
