Addis Ababa, May 7, 2022 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia in Sweden, Mehretab Mulugeta, presented his credentials to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
The Ambassador conveyed greetings and best wishes of the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahlework Zewde, to the King of Sweden.
Ambassador Meheretab recalled the long-standing and historical relationship between the two countries and said he would work to further strengthen and enhance that relationship during his stay in Sweden.
Recalling his visit to Ethiopia a long time ago, King Karl Gustaf XIII reiterated that Ethiopia and Sweden have a long history of diplomatic ties.
Ambassador Mehretab also took the opportunity to brief the King about the current situation in Ethiopia and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
He also spoke about the declaration of the Humanitarian Truce and efforts to create unimpeded access to food, medicine, and fuel in the Tigray region.
He explained how the TPLF’s insistence not to evacuate its forces from Amhara and Afar threatened the supply of humanitarian support to the Tigray region.
Regarding the Grand Renaissance Dam, Ambassador Meheretab spoke about the first phase of electric generation and the contribution of Ethiopians in building the dam.
He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to reaching amicable solutions in the negotiations with downstream countries.
