Addis Ababa, September 5, 2022 (FBC) – Kim Jang Hyun, Director-General of the African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau, was briefed on the current state of affairs in Ethiopia by Dessie Dalkie, Ethiopia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
The Ambassador briefed the Director General on the TPLF’s ongoing unwarranted attacks in northern Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian government attempted to end the conflict through peaceful means, but the TPLF refused to accept it and started the war by organizing a sizable group of youths to be used as cannon fodder.
The ambassador also spoke about the Ethiopian government’s initiatives to put an end to the conflict peacefully, including the declaration of the humanitarian truce, commitments to diligently participate in the AU-led peace talks, the creation of a high-level peace committee, and others.
He said that despite the government’s encouraging peace efforts, the TPLF insisted on finding solutions based on its aggressive attacks.
The ambassador said that the international community should be aware of the TPLF’s propensity for armed conflict and exert pressure on the group to sit down for negotiations without preconditions.
