Addis Ababa, December 4, 2023 (FBC) – Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, stressed the need to utilize the potentials of arts and music, among others, to promote cultural exchange between Russia and Ethiopia.
The Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Addis Ababa hosted a classical music concert, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergey Rachmaninoff and Fyodor Shalyapin.
Graduates of the Moscow State Conservatory named after Petr I. Tchaikovsky, laureates of international competitions Ivan Koscheev (piano) and Fyodor Sidyakov (baritone) performed the works of world classics.
During the event, Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin exclusively told FBC that arts and music have a power to bring peoples together and create a fertile ground for social cooperation.
“This concert is among the ongoing activities being undertaken in the arts sector by our side to promote cultural exchange, strengthen people-to-people ties and boost the longstanding and bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Russia,” the Ambassador said, pledging to proceed with similar programs in the future.
“We are working to organize same type of entertainment platforms for Ethiopian musicians, singers and artists to perform in different cities of Russia in the future,” the Ambassador said.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps in Ethiopia, the Russian Embassy officials, Russian compatriots and the Ethiopian public and media.
Several Russian musical ensembles and cultural teams have so far performed in Addis Ababa over the past years.
