Amb of Russia to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin congratulates Ethiopians on 126th Anniversary of Victory of Adwa

Addis Ababa, March 1, 2022 (FBC) – Ambassador of Russia to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin has congratulated Ethiopians on the 126th Anniversary of Victory of Adwa.

“This event has become a symbol of the independence and courage of the Ethiopian people to defend their freedom in the face of European colonizers. It served as a powerful impetus for the strengthening of Ethiopian statehood and its independent domestic and foreign policy,” he said.

The Battle of Adwa was, without exaggeration, the guiding star for all enslaved peoples of Africa in their struggle for liberation from the yoke of colonialism, the Ambassador underlined.

“It is gratifying that this event was a milestone in the process of establishing Russian-Ethiopian relations. Representatives of our country personally contributed to the victory on the battlefield. Russian medics had helped to save thousands of Ethiopian war heroes wounded in the battle,” he said.

“Soon after the Battle of Adwa, diplomatic relations were established between our countries. Thus, the Victory of Adwa is undoubtedly a cornerstone in the history of our relations,” Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin added.

The Ambassador further expressed wishes of wellbeing, peace and prosperity to the people of Ethiopia.
