Algeria keen on strengthening bilateral ties with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2022 (FBC) – The newly appointed Ambassador of Algeria to Ethiopia, Mohammed Lamine Laabas, presented his copy of credentials to Demeke Atnafu, Chief of Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the occasion, Demeke briefed the new Algerian Ambassador on latest developments in Ethiopia in the wake of the peace agreement reached between the federal government and the TPLF, and the efforts underway to speed up implementation of the accord.

Demeke also stated that the government is accelerating delivery of humanitarian aid to people in need and restoration of services in war affected areas in the northern part of the country.

He also reiterated Ethiopia’s firm stance on a win-win outcome in the GERD negotiations guided by the maxim “African solutions to African problems.”

Ambassador Mohammed Lamin Labas, for his part, appreciated the Pretoria Peace Agreement and reaffirmed his country’s readiness to strengthen its relationship with Ethiopia through multifaceted areas of cooperation.

Both sides agreed that Ethiopia and Algeria should explore opportunities to enhance their mutual cooperation in various sectors.
