Addis Ababa, August 31, 2024 (FBC) – At the World Athletics U20 Championships Lima 24, Ethiopian youngster Aleshign Bawoqe has stormed to victory in the women’s 3000m final, clocking 8:50.32 to top the race and clinch the fourth gold medal for Ethiopia in this tournament.
Her compatriot Marta Alemayehu also made a notable impact, taking home the bronze medal with a time of 8:53.64. Kenya’s Marion Jepngetich finished second, earning the silver medal.
In the men’s 800m final, General Ayansa has claimed the gold medal with a dominant performance. Ayansa clocked an impressive 1:46.86, securing the top spot on the podium.
Ethiopia is currently in second place in the medal table standings with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze at the World Athletics U20 Championships Lima 24.
Meanwhile, at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome, Hagos Gebrhiwet has triumphed in the men’s 5000m, finishing in 12:51.07. Gebrhiwet’s victory was followed by his Ethiopian teammates Yomif Kejelcha and Selemon Barega, who took second and third place, respectively.
