Addis Ababa, October 8, 2024 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa city administration has announced the second phase of corridor development project works is set to be launched this week in various areas of the Ethiopian capital.
During a media briefing regarding the launch of this phase, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie stated that the primary objective of the corridor and redevelopment projects is to enhance the beauty and cleanliness of the capital, making it a comfortable and attractive place for its residents, while maintaining its status as an international diplomatic hub.
She emphasized that the success of the first phase of the corridor and redevelopment project is a testament to the importance of concerted efforts and synergy in driving change and fostering a strong work culture.
The Mayor disclosed that discussions were held with residents in the areas of the corridors regarding the preliminary preparations for the second phase of the project, and as a result, the work on eight corridors will commence this week.
Adanech stated that the city administration has prepared relocation housing for individuals who have been residing in “kebele houses” (informal housing units owned by the government and rented to their occupants) around the corridors to be developed, and the necessary compensation has been prepared for private residences that will be demolished for the corridor development project.
The Mayor emphasized that the works to be carried out in the corridor and redevelopment project are a shared responsibility and that a system has been established to address any complaints that may arise.
Accordingly, the second phase of the corridor development project in Addis Ababa will be carried out in the following eight corridors:
- Kasanchis-St. Estifanos-Meskel Square-Mexico Roundabout-Churchill Road-Arat Killo Corridor and Redevelopment Works (corridor length 40.4 km)
- Chaka Project (South Gate)–Megenagna–Haya Hulet– Meskel Square Corridor (corridor length 7.1 km)
- CMC-Summit-Goro-Bole VIP Terminal Corridor and Addis International Convention and Exhibition Center Corridor (corridor length 10.8 km)
- Sar Bet-Karl Roundabout-Bisrate Gabriel-Abo Mazoriya-Laphto Roundabout-Hanna-Fury Corridor (the length of the corridor is 15.9 km)
- Anbessa Garage- Jacros Area-Goro Corridor (the length of the corridor is 3.1 km)
- Arat Kilo-Shiro Meda-Entoto Maryam-Gulele Botanical Garden Corridor (corridor length 13.19 km)
- Kebena Riverside Development Corridor (corridor length 20 km)
- Entoto-Peacock River Corridor (corridor length 21.5 km)
