Addis Ababa, March 20, 2025 (FMC) – Co-organized by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute and Information Network Security Administration (INSA), an international technology expo and conference, dubbed, “Ethiopian Technology Expo 2025 (ETEX 2025) is due to be held in Addis Ababa from May 16-18, 2025.
Anticipated as the largest tech event in Ethiopia is set to be held at the Addis International Convention Center (AICC) in the Ethiopian capital.
Ethiopia is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, driven by its Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and aligned with the African Union Agenda 2063. With the country’s IT services market projected to reach $2.44 billion by 2025, Ethiopia is emerging as a leader in cybersecurity, AI, smart cities, fintech, and tech education.
Cybersecurity is at the forefront of this transformation, with security solutions and services now accounting for 40% of market revenue. Application and data security remain a top priority for 70% of organizations, reflecting Ethiopia’s commitment to a resilient digital future.
The nation’s economic progress is further reinforced by IMF’s recent approval of a $248 million disbursement under the $3.4 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement, supporting Ethiopia’s continued growth and technological advancement.
Regarding the country’s strides on digital journey, Prime Minister Abiy recently said: “We have made significant strides as a nation since embarking on our digital journey. To thrive in the digital economy, we must support innovators and build strong digital enablers.We aim to position Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital economy, encouraging global partnerships and empowering our youth to drive the digital revolution.”
Reflecting on the upcoming event, Worku Gachena (PhD), Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII), stated: ETEX 2025 will showcase Ethiopia’s tech-driven transformation, highlighting our strides in AI, cybersecurity, Smart city and innovation. This expo will encourage global collaboration and Cooperation, positioning Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital future. Initiatives like the 5M Coder Initiative program, are key to this vision, equipping millions with digital skills to drive our growing tech ecosystem.”
