Addis Ababa shares experiences on early childhood dev’t program to regional states

Addis Ababa, October 10, 2023 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa city administration today shared its experiences and success in early childhood development program to regional states.

The Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie shared the city’s experiences in the presence of Arega Kebede, the chief administrator of Amhara region, Desta Ledamo, the chief administrator of the Sidama region, ministers, and officials from Oromia region, Dire-Dawa city administration, international organizations, as well as field experts.

In her remarks at the event, the Mayor indicated that over the past two years, the city’s focus has been on generational building, coordinating executive institutions, developing a roadmap, and leading operational and organizational efforts.

“We have made significant progress in these areas and are proud to share our achievements,” she said.

Adanech added, one of Addis Ababa city’s key initiatives has been the deployment of 2,500 home-to-home caregivers who provide education to parents and guardians. “We have also made substantial improvements to healthcare facilities, upgrading 56 health centers, and have invested in education by constructing 46 pre-primary schools, 152 kindergartens, and 156 playgrounds. Through these efforts, we aim to position Addis Ababa as the leading African capital for childcare.”

She also recalled that last weekend the city administration had the opportunity to share its experiences with mayors from various African cities during the AMALI Africa Cities Leadership Forum.

“As a result of our generational building efforts, the Early Childhood Program, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has decided to make it a national focus,” she reckoned, expressing her gratitude to the Prime Minister for the unwavering support in all of the city administration’s endeavors.
