Addis Ababa, June 5, 2020 (FBC) – Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa, Engineer Takelle Umma has officially launched the second Green Legacy Campaign in the city through planting trees along with leader of religious institutions.
The launch of the second Green Legacy Campaign has taken place in the municipal compound of Addis Ababa involving participation of high ranking government officials including the deputy mayor, religious leaders and representatives of the community.
During the launch of tree planting campaign, the religious leaders called up on the public to play its active role in planting trees and nurturing the environment during the already started green legacy campaign period.
Deputy Mayor Engineer Takelle Umma, to his part, said the trees being planted can be a source of food besides making the environment green and ensuring the ecological balance.
Addis Abba is set to plant 7 Billion trees tut of the target 5 Billion trees to be planted in this rainy season, According to the information from Mayor’s office.
Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, while announcing the launch of the second green legacy campaign, said the green legacy initiative is critical to Ethiopia’s aspirations to build green and climate resilient economy.
