Bahir Dar’s corridor dev’t reveals hidden gems of Lake Tana – DPM Temesgen

Addis Ababa, March 18, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Truneh, has stated that the ongoing corridor development projects in Bahir Dar, which integrate the shores of Lake Tana, will further enhance the beauty of Ethiopia’s largest lake.

Temesgen made the remarks while accompanying Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on his visit to Bahir Dar on Monday. The Prime Minister and his delegation assessed the progress of the city’s corridor development works.

Reflecting on the project, Temesgen highlighted that the initiative will create a more accessible and scenic urban environment, allowing residents to connect with the natural beauty and refreshing breeze of Lake Tana through well-designed streets.

In addition to the corridor development, he emphasized the significance of restoring and re-cultivating palm trees, a signature feature of Bahir Dar, as part of the initiative.

Addressing Ethiopia’s bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the construction of the Bahir Dar Stadium, designed to accommodate 52,000 spectators, is progressing with necessary adjustments to meet international standards. He further stated that beyond serving as a football venue, the stadium is envisioned as a key tourist attraction upon completion.

Temesgen also pointed out that the establishment of new tourism destinations, such as the Gorgora Eco Resort, in close proximity to Bahir Dar presents an opportunity for the city to position itself as a major transit hub for tourists.
