PM calls for strengthened solidarity on Africa Day

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2020 (FBC) – Marking Africa Day, Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has called for strengthened solidarity across the continent.

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said “As we celebrate Africa Day today, let’s strengthen our solidarity for the Africa we want.”

“Our vibrant and diverse continent with many assets is destined for multidimensional prosperity,” he added.

In connection with day, the African Union (AU) has created an AU OVID-19 Response Fund with the aim of strengthening the continental response to COVID-19.

A target of $million has been set for the day, said AU in a statement.

“This AfricaDay, 25 May, all Africans, people of African descent and friends of Africa are encouraged to ‘give a little’ to the fund,” it added.

Contributions can be made in any currency and money raised under the Fund will be used to mitigate the social, economic and humanitarian impact of COVID-19 in all African countries.
