Addis Ababa, August 3, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia (MoA) stated that more than 6.3 billion tree seedlings have been planted so far out of the 6.5 billion seedlings planned to be planted under this season’s Green Legacy Program.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporates’s Zufan Kasahun, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Eyasu Elias, said that 450 million of the tree seedlings planted so far are edible fruits.
He mentioned that this year’s Green Legacy Program will continue until early September.
The Minister of State said that efforts will be unleashed to increase the success rate of planted seedlings to 90 percent.
He also explained that associations of youths have been formed and given the responsibility to look after the planted seedlings in the watershed areas.
Institutions have been entrusted with the obligation to look after the seedlings they planted and entered contracts to increase the success rate of the growth of the trees, said the Minister of State.
He pointed out that 1.6 million hectares of land has been covered with seedlings in this year’s Green Legacy Program.
