Addis Ababa, April 26, 2024 (FBC) – The Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs at the United Nations, Felipe Paullier, convened a meeting here in Addis Ababa with representatives of the Ethiopian youth network and the UN Youth Taskforce on Thursday.
According to the UN Country Team in Ethiopia, the discussion centered on the priorities, opportunities, and challenges encountered by the youth in Ethiopia, as well as the collaborative endeavors required to tackle them.
He also met with high-level government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie.
The visit of Assistant Secretary-General Felipe Paullier to Ethiopia this week marks his first-ever trip to Africa.
It was emphasized that investing in youth opportunities is crucial for securing a brighter future, especially considering that Africa boasts the largest youth population in the world.
During the gathering of UN Resident Coordinators in Africa, Felipe Paullier stressed the importance of rebuilding trust in multilateralism and underscored the essential nature of meaningful youth engagement. He emphasized that establishing structures for such engagement is crucial for restoring trust in multilateralism, stating that participation is the initial step toward fostering trust.
The only way to be effective in addressing the actual global crisis is working with young people as partners, he stressed.
