4th General Assembly of Ethiopian ECSOC underway in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 3, 2023 (FBC) -The Fourth General Assembly of the Ethiopian Civil society Organization Council is underway in Addis Ababa.

It is stated that on the general assembly activities that have been undertaken by the Council including its annual performance report, audit report, executive committee members report, as well as endorsement of code of conduct observation panel elected members and annual plan for the year of 2023 are to be presented.

Opening the General Assembly, President of ECSOC, Nigussu Legesse stated the importance of collaboration among all CSOs saying, “Although diversity is not a problem in itself, rather than collectively advising and reaching a decision on current issues that require immediate decision, acting separately will prevent the sector from standing in a united position on important national issues. We should all realize that the collaborative and consistent position of the civil society can be a firm support for the society.”

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director General of the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) Fasikaw Molla stated “A strengthened Civil Society Organizations Council means a strengthened CSO sector adding that for the Council to carry out the responsibilities bestowed upon it through the CSO proclamation, there needs to be a synergized effort by all CSOs in supporting the Council’s effort and achieving the free civic space intended in the sector.
