State Minister for Government Communication, Ms. Selamawit Kassa, discussed the progress of the one-day Green Legacy tree seedlings planting national campaign, which is taking place in all regional states and the two city administrations since 12:00 local time in the morning (6:00 am).
Today’s nationwide campaign aims to plant 600 million tree seedlings within a 12-hour timeframe, under the theme “The nation plants, the generation sustains.”
As of 2:00 pm (8:00 o’clock local time) today, a total of 402 million tree seedlings have been planted across Ethiopia.
The Green Legacy planting campaign is being conducted on a geo-referenced and mapped area, allowing international institutions to accurately count the seedlings, the State Minister confirmed.
During a media briefing regarding today’s planting campaign, Adefers Worku, the chairman of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy National Technical Committee, mentioned that Ethiopia is sharing its experience with neighboring countries and distributing tree seedlings.
He emphasized that the Green Legacy initiative is making a substantial contribution in the field of diplomacy.
According to the chairman, the initiative serves as a means of reconciliation with nature and replacing the natural resources that have been destroyed, ultimately bringing humanity and nature closer together.
