Addis Ababa, September 20, 2024 (FBC) – The 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League season is set to kick off later today at the Dire-Dawa Stadium, marking the return of the country’s premier club football competition.
This season’s matches will also be continued to be played in a tournament format at various venues. In this regard, the Dire-Dawa stadium is scheduled to host the league’s first five match week games.
Consequently, the new season curtain raiser match will be played between the 2018/19 champions Mekelle 70 Enderta and Hadiya Hossa’ena at Dire-Dawa Stadium at 4:00 pm later this afternoon. As the first week of the league continues, Arba-Minch City will face Dire-Dawa City later in the evening at 7:00 pm.
Tomorrow, Wolkite City will play Mechal FC at 4:00 pm in the afternoon, and Wolwalo Adigrat University will face Bahr Dar City FC at 7:00 pm in the evening.
On Sunday, the 22nd of September, Ethio Electric will host Wolaita Dicha at 4:00 pm, while St. George will take on Fasil Kenema at 7:00 pm. On Monday, Adama City will play Sehul Shire at 4:00 pm, and Sidama Bunna and Hawasa City will face off in the last game of matchday 1.
The biggest game of matchday 1, between Ethiopian Coffee and the reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, has been postponed.
The league’s governing body has announced that 19 clubs will participate in the 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League season, with the return of three clubs from the Tigray region, including Mekelle 70 Enderta, Wolwalo Adigrat University, and Sehul Shire.
