Addis Ababa, July 14, 2023 (FBC) – The 2023/24 Ethiopian Premier League season is expected to kick off at the end of September 2023, the League’s governing body announced last night.
The Premier League has informed the eligible clubs that the new season will start on September 30, 2023.
It is to be recalled that the League’s 2022/23 season has concluded last week, where Saint George S.C. (Kidus Giorgis) have been crowned as champions for 16th time since the league’s inception as ‘Ethiopian Premier League’. The Horsemen will also represent Ethiopia in next season’s CAF Champions League.
Title contenders Bahir Dar City, also Known as the Waves of Tana, finished second with 60 points, just 4 points behind the champions Saint George. The Waves of Tana have secured their place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. This will be their first outing in the continental football since their promotion to the Ethiopian PL a few years ago.
Ismaïl Ouro-Agoro from Saint George (25 goals), Getaneh Kebede from Wolkite City (18 goals), and Biniam Getachew from Dire-Dawa City (14 goals) have finished the season as the top 3 goalscorers.
On the other hand, the 2022/23 season saw the relegation of Ethio Electric FC, Legetafo-Legedadi FC and Arba Minch FC to the second-tier.
Meanwhile, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Shashemene City, and Hambericho Durame have secured promotion to the 2023/24 PL season.
