117th Nat’l Defense Forces Day being celebrated in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, October 25, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) is commemorating the 117th National Defense Day in Addis Ababa with various events that demonstrate the occasion.

The event is being attended by the FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie, the Chief of Staff of the National Defense Forces Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Minister of Defense Aisha Mohamed, ENDF senior officials, members of the defense forces, elders, veterans, former members of the armed forces, members of the Federal Police, families of the armed forces, and invited guests.

The event marks the 117th anniversary of the establishment of the modern Ethiopian army and to honor the sacrifices of security forces for the nation’s sovereignty.

In addition to defending and protecting Ethiopia’s sovereignty, the armed forces have contributed to maintaining peace and stability in various African and Asian countries under the AU/UN missions.

The Ethiopian national defense forces have demonstrated heroism in AU/UN peacekeeping missions in Korea, Congo, Liberia, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan (Darfur), and South Sudan’s Abyei area.

It was indicated that members of the Ethiopian national defense forces play a significant role in combating terrorism and maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa region. The Ethiopian army is not only equipped with modern weaponry, but is also trained and regularly prepared to carry out any duty efficiently.
