Addis Ababa, May 12, 2024 (FBC) – A 10-hour digital telethon has commenced today, with the aim of raising 50 million Ethiopian Birr to support the ‘Clean Ethiopia’ initiative introduced last month by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Ethiopians both inside the country and abroad have already started providing financial support to the effective implementation of the project. The campaign is one of the various development projects being carried out in Addis Ababa to give this city the appropriate international standard. The campaign is a great opportunity to involve all Ethiopians, including those living abroad in the diaspora, members of the international community residing in Addis Ababa, and friends of Ethiopia.
On April 26th, the Prime Minister unveiled plans to construct modern, hygienic, and dignified public restroom facilities, with a strong emphasis on community involvement in the construction process.
The ‘Clean Ethiopia’ initiative includes a fundraising component under the theme ‘Clean Cities – Healthy Lives.’ Accordingly, a nationwide digital telethon for this cause was officially launched on April 28th, 2024.
The primary objective is to solicit both monetary and in-kind contributions from the public to fund the construction of these much-needed public sanitation facilities across the country. This campaign aims to mobilize support from all segments of the Ethiopian society, both within the country and in the global diaspora, as well as the international community residing in Addis Ababa.
Today’s 10-hour digital telethon is a key part of this broader fundraising campaign, with the ambitious goal of generating 50 million Birr in a single day to support the ‘Clean Ethiopia’ initiative.
