Ambassador Mesganu reaffirms Ethiopia’s position on peaceful mechanisms to address conflicts
Addis Ababa, April 25, 2024 (FBC) – Deputy Foreign Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ambassador Mesganu Arga is participating in the consultation of BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
On the occasion, Ambassador Mesganu reaffirmed Ethiopia’s principled-position to address conflicts through peaceful means, respecting sovereignty and national ownership.
He also stressed the primacy of diplomacy and dialogue, calling for maximum restraint and de-escalation to avoid the risk of devastating regional conflict with catastrophic global ramifications.
Effective preventive diplomacy should be at the core of engagements to address multiple crises, he pointed out.
“The attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea corridor are threatening maritime security. The Red Sea region should be a zone of cooperation through de-escalation and inclusive consultation among all stakeholders,” Ambassador Mesganu remarked.
Ambassador Mesganu reiterated Ethiopia’s call to Sudanese parties to reach an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, stressing the need to harmonize peace efforts under the auspices of the AU and the IGAD.
The international community should work in partnership to bring about sustainable and peaceful solutions to the challenges of the Middle East and North Africa.
