Ambassador briefs UN Resident Coordinator in Djibouti on latest developments in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, October 28, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti, Berhanu Tsegaye received the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Djibouti, Eric Overvest yesterday.
During the meeting, congratulating Eric for the new post at the UN in Djibouti, Ambassador Berhanu highlighted the multi-faceted and strategic relationship between Ethiopia and Djibouti and the ever increasing economic ties and the upward trajectory in areas such as road, railway, Power and air transport connectivity.
The Ambassador also gave briefings on the current situation in Ethiopia, giving particular emphasis on the efforts to pacify the country and defend the people from the heinous attacks of the terrorist group, TPLF.
Ambassador Berhanu mentioned the reluctance and unmerited approach from few international institutions and countries in looking into the matter and the undue pressure on the government of Ethiopia despite continued atrocities by the TPLF.
He said that evidences clearly demonstrated that TPLF is the culprit from the day it brutally attacked the Northern Command of the Ethiopian National Defense force; to the killings of civilians and the wanton destruction of property; from its incursion into Amhara and Afar regions by ridiculing the declaration of the unilateral humanitarian ceasefire as a joke to its audacious use to commandeer UN vehicles for the war in the region.
Eric, for his part, thanked the Ambassador for the warm welcome and noted that the UN is following the situation closely while suggesting a peaceful resolution to the conflict that he said is endangering the lives of millions.
The two sides concluded their discussions by expressing their readiness to work together and further strengthen the ties.
