Amb. Tefera discusses with Deputy DG of Int’l Economic Affairs of China
Addis Ababa, September 8, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Tefera Derbew, paid courtesy visit and held a discussion with Mrs. Lu Mei, Deputy Director-General of International Economic Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tefera, Ethiopian Ambassador to China thanked the People and the Government of the People’s Republic of China for continuous and consistent support rendered for Ethiopia to be the member of BRICS, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing.
He also underlined the effort of the Ethiopian Government and strong enthusiasm shown to realize the long-aged dreams of being a member of BRICS. China always supports the position of Ethiopia on international platforms and this has recently been manifested in helping Ethiopia join the membership of BRICS, said Ambassador.
Given the strong bilateral and multilateral relations of the two countries, this membership of BRICS will also foster various existing cooperation and collaboration to the higher level, added Ambassador. From now onwards, Ethiopia will be an active partner of BRICS, he affirmed.
Furthermore, the Ambassador said that BRICS is a multilateral platform and all positions and interests reflected could represent for the developing member countries in the BRICS. At this critical juncture, BRICS has been the talk of the world and attracts the attention of all and sundry, he added.
Mrs. Lu Mei, said on her part, said the Government of the People’s Republic of China has been happy for Ethiopia to join the membership of the BRICS.
She also emphasized that China made great efforts to assist Ethiopia join the BRICS from its inception. She also underlined the need to collectively join hands to execute international responsibilities together with like-minded countries.
This membership could help Ethiopian influential capacity in international platforms. BRICS cooperation is very comprehensive and more substantial and practical, it was stated.
