Singapore ready to deepen bilateral, multilateral ties with Ethiopia – President

Addis Ababa, May 28, 2024 (FBC) – Ambassador Fekadu Beyene conveyed the best wishes of President Sahle Work Zewdie, and Prime Mister Abiy Ahmed to the President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, while presenting his letter of Credence to the President.

Ambassador Fekadu is now accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the Republic of Singapore with residence in Jakarta, Indonesia, in a ceremony held on May 28, 2024, at Istana Palace in the capital of Singapore.

Ambassador Fekadu Beyene, paid a courtesy call on the President, where he conveyed the best wishes of President Sahle Work Zewdie, and Prime Mister Abiy Ahmed Ali, for the personal wellbeing of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and the welfare and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Singapore.

The Ambassador further expressed his desire to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. He also thanked the Government of the Republic of Singapore for the longstanding multifaceted relations. Moreover, the Ethiopian envoy reiterated the firm commitment his Government to further strengthen both bilateral and multilateral relations with the Government of the Republic of Singapore.

The President of the Republic of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, on his part, wished the Ambassador success in his work to enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries. The President further expressed gratitude for the goodwill wishes of the Government and Peoples of Ethiopia.

He stated that the Republic of Singapore will continue to strengthen its bilateral and multilateral relations with Ethiopia, while highlighting his country’s readiness to provide him with the required support in discharging his duties.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Fekadu further thanked the President and indicated the great opportunities that exist in Ethiopia with its reform agenda.

During the meeting between the president and the ambassador, Ethiopia being the gate way to Africa, and the Ethiopian Airlines connecting Addis Ababa with the rest of the world, including Singapore with its 5 times flights per week were discussed as among enablers for much closer collaboration between the two nations business communities.

Ethiopia’s impressive results in dry season irrigated and cluster farming practices of small holder farms, and the green legacy initiative, the eco-tourism potentials, special economic zone, manufacturing industries and IT were also discussed.
