Africa CDC set to inaugurate its HQ in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, January 9, 2023 (FBC) – The head quarter office building of the African Center for Disease Control, where the legacy of construction professionals from Ethiopia and China rested, will soon be inaugurated, AU Media Advisory announced.
The newly built headquarter building of the African CDC, which was built in Nefas Silk Lafto sub-city in Addis Ababa city, is said to be an exemplary building, as it was completed in a short period of time.
According to AU’s media advisory the China-backed new Africa CDC HQ site covers an area of 90,000m2 with a total construction area of nearly 40,000m2.
The HQ is expected to become one of the best-equipped centres for disease control in Africa, allowing Africa CDC to play its role as the technical institution coordinating disease prevention, surveillance and control in the continent in partnership with the national public health institutes and ministries of health of Member States.
The Media advisory stated that the building consists of an emergency medical department, a data centre, a laboratory, training and meeting halls and other centres that help in carrying out activities.
It is to be recalled that the new Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, is expected to visit Ethiopia this week.
Qin Gang is also expected to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony of the Africa CDC HQ project site in the African Village, Addis Ababa.
In accordance with a number of agreements concluded between the AU and the Government of China, the AU Commission and the Ministry of Commerce of the People`s Republic of China have signed the Implementation Agreement on the Africa CDC HQs building project in July 2020.
