Through its virtual engagement, the webinar has involved recommendations of scholars and researchers drawn from various public institutions regarding an innovative response to the pandemic.
On the webinar, Deputy Director of Research and Conservation for Cultural Heritage Authority, Assistant Professor Abebaw Ayalew highlighted solutions vital to combat the COVID 19 public health crisis.
He recommended measures like nurturing spiritual strength, maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding public gatherings related to country’s long standing customs like wedding ceremonies, Edir and Debbo to prevent the spread of the virus.
A psychiatrist in Addis Ababa University, Dr. Barkot Milkias, to her part, suggested avoidance of routine life styles that aggravate transmission of the virus.
She also called for social protection drives for vulnerable and susceptible segments of the societies such as children and elders.
COVID 19 control efforts being exerted by the government and the public at large need fundamental behavioral changes among the community to bring expected results in combating the pandemic in a more sustainable manner.
