Addis Ababa to host IGAD Quartet meeting on Sudan soon
Addis Ababa, June 15, 2023 (FBC) – Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affrays, Ambassador Meles Alem,, during a biweekly press briefing of the Ministry on Thursday, stated that the IGAD led Quartet consisting Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya will be convened in Addis Ababa soon to discuss peaceful solution for the conflict in Sudan.
Ambassador Meles stated that during the 14th Ordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government held in Djibouti on Tuesday, all the member states have reached an agreement on how to peacefully solve the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in Sudan.
Based on the directives set during IGAD Summit, leaders of the four countries will meet in Addis Ababa within 10 days to explore mechanisms how to address the conflict in Sudan, the Spokesperson said.
The meeting to be held in Addis Ababa is part of Ethiopia’s continued commitment to peace in Sudan, Ambassador Meles Alem added.
The efforts being made by Ethiopia to expand the Green Legacy Initiative into the regional countries has been recognized by leaders of the regional bloc who took part in the planting of seedlings in Djibouti following the conclusion of the Summit, according to the Spokesperson.
