Addis Ababa stages public rally in support of national reform achievements

Addis Ababa, April 6, 2024 (FBC) – Public rallies took place earlier this morning in Addis Ababa, as well as in various cities and towns throughout Ethiopia, to express support for the accomplishments of nationwide reform activities.

In the capital, residents from all sub-cities gathered at Mesqel Square to demonstrate solidarity and endorse the reforms implemented in the country over the past six years under the leadership of the incumbent Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed. These gatherings were conducted under an overarching motto “We will stand together for the prosperity of our country”.

Messages of support displayed by the residents of the capital include, “Megabit 24 marks a historic day of Ethiopia’s uprising,” “We Ethiopians are committed to contributing to the peace and comprehensive prosperity of our country,” “The national reform has strengthened Ethiopia’s sovereignty,” “We are determined to fulfill the initiatives aimed at modernizing Addis Ababa,” and “The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam embodies our unity and strength.”

In response, Ms. Adanech Abiebie, the Mayor of Addis Ababa, conveyed her appreciation to the rally participants and reaffirmed the city administration’s dedication to intensifying people-centered development programs, as well as social and economic initiatives.

Simultaneously, residents of Jigjiga, Harar, Arba-Minch, Wolayta Sodo, Gambella, Mizan Aman, Bonga, Halaba Kulito, Wolkite, and various other cities and towns also organized similar public rallies in solidarity with the ongoing nationwide comprehensive reform efforts.

The Ethiopian leadership has carried out concrete works that ensure the country’s prosperity and protect its national interests, Government Communication Service Minister Legesse Tulu recently told the media.

The success registered by the reformist leadership in various spheres during the stated period is vivid. The government has been exerting effort to resolve Ethiopia’s deep-rooted problems and nurture lasting peace.

In this respect, nation-state building activities have been underway based on a shared narrative by involving all parties to ensure unity and promote solidarity in the spirit of cooperation. The government is also working hard to resolve differences and disagreements through dialogue and consultations by establishing the National Dialogue Commission, the minister noted.

Moreover, the government has been taking many steps to enhance political participation and inclusiveness, according to Legesse. The government has also laid foundation for independent institutions such as the National Election Board of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to flourish.
