Addis Ababa Police seize 182 firearms, 2,120 bullets in last sixteen days
Addis Ababa, December 23, 2020 (FBC) – Addis Ababa Police Commission has announced seizure of a number of weapons in last sixteen days aided by raid conducted door-to-door and in vehicles in the city.
Police said that it has captured 53 Kalashnikovs and other rifles, 129 pistols, 2, 120 bullets of various weapons and a number of hand grenades in raid and investigations conducted as part of the law enforcement measures underway in the country.
Public Relations Director of Addis Ababa Police Commission, Commander Fasika Fanta disclosed that military uniforms and radio communication devices have also been seized by police through raids.
Out of the total weapons seized by police, 41 pistols and 254 bullets have been captured from passengers in raid conducted in vehicles, it is stated.
According to the Addis Ababa Police Commission, some have died and injured due to accidental blasts of abandoned hand grenades and explosives in Addis Ababa over the last months.
Addis Ababa Police has so far taken control of 25 grenades, 4 explosives and 17 firearms thrown by anonymous individuals in several places of the metropolis.
