Addis Ababa Mayor, Chinese Ambassador discuss city livelihood development projects
Addis Ababa, December 12, 2024 (FMC) – Addis Ababa City Mayor Ms. Adanech Abiebie held talks today with Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai on ways to swiftly launch the construction of the Gerbi Drinking Water Dam Project.
Following the discussion, Mayor Adanech said on her social media page that she had a productive discussion with Ambassador Chen Hai and delegates from the Chinese construction company CGCOC on ways to quickly launch the construction of the Project.
The project was planned to be built in 2016 with support from Exim Bank, but due to the fact that the loan has not been released to date, the city administration has decided to build it with its own budget, the Mayor pointed out.
She also stated that her administration has reached an agreement with the Chinese Embassy and the contractor CGCOC Group to build a water supply system with its own budget to meet the city’s water demand and supply.
Ms. Adanech further noted that her city administration is working to address the city’s water supply shortage by allocating the necessary budget.
The Mayor hopes that when the project is completed, it will make her administration’s efforts more effective and will further resolve the water demand and supply mismatch.
During the course of the discussion, both sides acknowledge the importance of completing such projects will greatly benefit residents of the Ethiopian capital.
