In that regard, Addis Ababa and Senegal’s Dakar were selected as members of the main committee of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact from Africa.
The Committee provides strategic oversight to ensure that the mission and declaration of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact are directly guided and responsive to the needs of its members, it is mentioned.
It is also noted that elections to the Executive Committee of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact are held every two years.
The Moyor’s Office of Addis Ababa recalled that Ababa City has won the 8th Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) Global Forum Award on Sustainable Diet and Nutrition in October last year in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Addis Ababa won the accolade for its ‘Schools Feeding Program’ best practice, beating 133 cities in the world.
Launched by the Milan Municipality in 2015, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact is an international agreement among cities from all over the world, committed “to develop sustainable food systems that are inclusive, resilient, safe and diverse, that provide healthy and affordable food to all people in a human rights-based framework, that minimize waste and conserve biodiversity while adapting to and mitigating impacts of climate change”.
Its main aim is to support cities wishing to develop more sustainable urban food systems by fostering city to city cooperation and best practices exchange.
