Activities underway to integrate refugees into statistical systems in IGAD region
Addis Ababa, March 21, 2024 (FBC) – IGAD organized a workshop in Addis Ababa to validate the second edition its migration and displacement statistics report and devise strategies to enhance and manage displacement statistics effectively.
The initiative aims to augment the availability and quality of migration and forced displacement data, initiating discussions on a comprehensive implementation strategy for refugee protection.
In her opening remark, Director General of Refugees and Returnees Service, Teyiba Hassen emphasized the importance of systematically including forcibly displaced persons in the national statistics in alignment with the Global Compact on Refugees and the commitment to “leave no-one behind” embodied in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The workshop also highlights Ethiopia’s commitment to integrating refugees into the national statistical system.
Representatives from Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia, Sweden and Norway are participating, fostering a multi-year partnership for financial, material, technical and logistical support.
