Activities underway for homecoming of second generation Ethiopian diaspora
Addis Ababa, January 2, 2024 (FBC) – Various activities have started in various countries for the homecoming of the second generation Ethiopian diaspora come back to their origin.
It is to be remembered that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) invited the second generation of Ethiopians in the Diaspora a week ago. In that regard, the “Back to your origins” invitation to the second generation of Ethiopian Diaspora will be undertaken in three rounds, the Minister of Tourism, Nasisie Chali said while in her media briefing a few days ago. According to her, the first round of the “Back to your origins” will be undertaken from 30 December 2023 to February 8, 2024 under the theme: “Connect to Your Multi-Cultural Roots”. The second round is scheduled to be held from February 27 to May 9, 2023 under the theme “Connect to Your Historical Roots”, whereas the third round will be held from June 18 to September 30, 2024 under the theme “Leave your Legacy, savor your holiday”.
Following the the Prime Minister’s invitation, it is pointed out that the Ethiopian missions and embassies in various countries across the world have initiated practical activities together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ethiopian Diaspora Service.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate, Ethiopian Ambassador to Nordic Countries, Mehreteab Mulugeta, stated that the movement will highly benefit Ethiopians, so work is being done to ensure that the second generation Ethiopians are well informed.
The ‘Back to Your Origins’ call will enable the second generation Ethiopians to get to know the country built by their forefathers and create strong ties, the envoy underscored.
When the second generation Ethiopians return to the countries they are residing in, they will be ambassadors of Ethiopia by sharing the history, culture, wealth and build positive images of the country, Amb. Mehreteab said
As the second generation Ethiopians and persons of Ethiopian descent are engaged in various professional fields in different countries, their homecoming will give them the opportunity to make their own mark on the development activities of Ethiopia, according to the ambassador.
The prospect of their visits to the newly tourist destinations developed under the Prime Minister’s initiative of “Dine for Ethiopia” will help boost the tourism sector, Amb. Mehreteab asserted.
The ambassador said that further information dissemination, registration of travelers in all three rounds of homecoming and follow-up activities will be carried out to make the next activities effective.
