Academics urged to commit their expertise to nation-building process
Addis Ababa, December 22, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Ministry of Peace called on academics to play their foremost role in nation-building process through devising expertise-based solutions.
A national intelligentials consultation launching conference, themed “Nation-Building Process and the Role of Academics”, was held. University presidents, heads of research institutes and other relevant bodies have participated in the launching event.
It was also stated that a national consultation forum will be held soon. More than 400,000 university, college and high school instructors, teachers and researchers, scholars and civil society members are expected to participate.
The Minister of Peace, Binalf Andualem, said that the National Forum of Academics is aimed at achieving lasting peace in Ethiopia and highlighting common issues.
He urged academics to renounce political involvements and propose proficiency-based solutions to national matters.
The Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Aseffa, for her part, emphasized that academics have the responsibility to carry on with the all-inclusive victory, peace and freedom gained from the previous generation in their profession.
She also called on them to play their constructive role in institutional building to realize a prosperous and conducive Ethiopia for all.
Tesfaye Beljge, Chief Government Whip, said that “Ethiopia is the icon of African independence, a manifestation of ancient civilization and a rich history. It is the honour and pride of all of us.”
Education Minister, Berhanu Nega, said that academics are those who understand the problems of society and propose solutions based on research.
ENA reported that participant academics have also requested for all necessary assistance and backing from the government so that they can discharge their expected roles.
