A team of high officials led by Deputy PM Demeke visits GERD
Addis Ababa, June 7, 2020 (FBC) – A team comprising high ranking government officials has today visited the process of the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) led by Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen.
The Foreign Affaris Minister, Gedu Andargachew, Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister, Dr. Sileshi Bekele, Prime Minister Office Secretariat, Nigussu Tilahun and Science and Innovation Minister, Abrham Belay are among the ministerial level officials who joined the team which visited the Grand Dam at Guba.
The construction of GERD is stepping up ahead of the commencement of the filling of its reservoir timetabled on upcoming July, 2020, Dr. Sileshi Bekele has indicated so far.
He said the minimum height of the block set to first phase of the filling has been upgraded from 525 to 534 meters.
Metal Works, installation of tunnels and turbines and generators and other finishing activities are underway as per time scheduled, according to the Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister.
