Ethiopia, Azerbaijan hold political consultation
Addis Ababa, January 15, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia and the Republic of Azerbaijan held their third political consultations today in Addis Ababa.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev led the consultations.
State Minister Ambassador Mesganu noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries is showing steady growth over recent years. He underscored that the current political consultation platform is serving as a key instrument in further enhancing the bilateral cooperation, facilitating exchange of views and collaboration on mutually important agendas.
He also emphasized the importance of exploring new venues of cooperation, including agriculture, mining, ICT, manufacturing and green economy.
The State Minister also highlighted Ethiopia’s comprehensive economic reforms and called on Azerbaijani public and private companies to leverage the country’s attractive investment opportunities.
Ambassador Mesganu congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting COP29 and noted the shared commitment of both nations to addressing climate change. He mentioned Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, through which over 40 billion seedlings have been planted over the past six years.
Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended to the Azerbaijani delegation. He remarked on the increasing exchange of high-level visits, reflecting the deepening bilateral relations in various sectors. He also noted that several Azerbaijani delegations will engage with key Ethiopian institutions such as the Ethiopian Investment Commission, Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ethiopian Investment Holdings.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expediting the implementation of pending draft agreements and strengthening their partnership across multiple domains, the Ethiopian foreign ministry reported.
