Ethiopia, Brazil agree to buttress cooperation in agriculture, food security

Addis Ababa, January 10, 2025 (FMC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Brazil have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in areas of agriculture and food security.

Potential avenues for further partnership in the domains of agriculture were discussed during a meeting between Ambassador of Ethiopia to Brazil, Leulseged Tadese, and Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family and the Fight Against Hunger of Brazil, in Brasilia.

On the occasion, the Ethiopian ambassador highlighted the remarkable transformation of the agriculture sector in his country to ensure food security and food sovereignty over the past few years thanks to the transformative leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Ambassador Leulseged also expounded on the implementation of school feeding initiative and its encouraging results in benefitting millions of students and improving quality of education.

In response, Mr. Wellington Dias commended Ethiopia’s achievements in advancing the agriculture sector and exemplary results recorded.

Highlighting Brazil’s impressive results on poverty reduction and combatting hunger, the Minister noted that his country is ready to work in close cooperation with Ethiopia in these domains.

Subsequently, Ambassador Leulseged and Wellington Dias disclosed that the two nations will continue working closely in ensuring food security and food sovereignty as well as climate change.
