Digital ID registration taking place in 41 centers across Tigray Region

Addis Ababa, January 8, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s national digital ID registration is now active at 41 centers in the Tigray region, forming part of the Fayda Digital ID initiative under the “Digital Ethiopia 2025” vision. This initiative utilizes biometric technology to create an inclusive digital economy.

Ethio-Telecom is collaborating with the National ID Program to facilitate these registrations, which have seen over 235,000 citizens already issued digital IDs. Residents can register at 26 permanent centers and through 15 mobile units, increasing accessibility, according to Operations Director of Ethio-Telecom’s Northern Region, Mulu Woldeselassie.

Awareness campaigns are being conducted to inform the public about the benefits of the Fayda Digital ID, which is essential for services like banking and passport applications. Registrants highlighted the ID’s role in verifying identity and accessing various services, stressing its importance for broad community use.
