Ethiopian, S. Sudanese intelligent institutions discuss avenues for cooperation  

Addis Ababa, December 19, 2024 (FMC) — The information and intelligence institutions of Ethiopia and South Sudan held a discussion aimed at enhancing and sustaining their diverse collaborative endeavours.

Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) said in a press statement it sent to the media today that NISS Director General, Ambassador Redwan Hussein, Deputy Director Generals and other senior officials of the service have exchanged views with South Sudanese delegation led by the Director General of Internal Security Bureau (ISB) of South Sudan, Lieutenant General Akech Tong Aleu.

During the occasion it was discussed that Ethiopia and South Sudan are countries with strong historical, cultural and people-to-people ties.

The countries are carrying out multi-faceted collaborations that will determine their common destiny and existence.

It was also indicated that the road that will be built to ensure the economic benefit and connectivity of the people of the two countries is instrumental to elevate the relationship to a higher level.

The two sides also talked about issues related to security and intelligent that can be resolved through information exchange and joint deployments.

According to the press statement, Ethiopia and South Sudan will strengthen their existing cooperation to halt illegal arms, money and human trafficking across their borders as well as to prevent terrorist activities, and continue to work to ensure regional stability.

They have also discussed ways to further enhance capacity-building cooperation, referencing the prior training conducted for South Sudanese information and security officials and experts at NISS.
