President Taye calls for urgent action to combat corruption
Addis Ababa, December 11, 2024 (FMC) – President Taye Atske Selasie has urged for more vigorous measures to combat corruption in Ethiopia, identifying it as a significant hindrance to sustainable development and poverty alleviation efforts.
The 21st International Anti-Corruption Day was celebrated today at the Adwa Victory Memorial, providing a platform for the president to speak on the pressing need for robust frameworks to dismantle corrupt practices and their harmful effects on society.
Recognizing the intricate nature of corruption in Ethiopia, President Taye emphasized that a collective approach is essential in order to overcome these challenges, as corruption directly undermines national efforts aimed at reducing poverty. He called for unwavering dedication in the fight against this issue, highlighting its critical importance for promoting sustainable development across various sectors as a pathway to national prosperity.
The president also championed a youth-focused strategy to help fulfill the country’s aspirations, reinforcing that tackling corruption is fundamental to achieving comprehensive prosperity. He recommended that educational institutions incorporate ethical and moral teachings into their curricula to contribute to the fight against corruption.
The Anti-Corruption Day event attracted numerous high-ranking officials, including Ewnetu Alene, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Democracy Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives, and Samuel Urqato, Commissioner of the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, along with other distinguished guests.
