China Confident in Achieving 2024 GDP Growth Target – Xi
BEIJING, December 10 (RIA Novosti) – China is confident of meeting its 2024 economic growth target and will continue to serve as a “major engine for economic growth,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday.
During a “1+10” meeting in Beijing with the heads of 10 international economic organizations on Monday, the Chinese leader discussed matters related to economic development.
“China is fully confident of achieving its economic growth target this year. It will continue to serve as a major engine for global economic growth,” Xi was quoted as saying by China Central Television during the meeting.
The Chinese president added that China’s development is open and inclusive, and the country will continue to expand its openness to the world.
Chinese authorities expect the country’s GDP growth rate to be around 5% in 2024. A government report released on March 5 said that such a target was set due to the need to stimulate employment, increase people’s income, and prevent and eliminate risks. The government also plans to match the target with the goals outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan and the tasks of implementing modernization in general, as well as the availability of economic growth potential and the relevant supporting conditions.
In March, a spokesperson for the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China, Liu Aihua, said that China has the conditions to achieve the projected 5% GDP growth in 2024.
