Ethiopia, Pakistan agree on optimum use of digital media for promoting bilateral relations
Addis Ababa, December 2, 2024 (FBC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have explored various avenues of collaboration for optimum use of digital media to strengthening the already flourishing ties between the two countries, the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad said in a press note sent to FBC.
To this end, Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, held a detailed discussion with Fahd Haroon, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and State Minister on Digital Media at his office on Monday.
During the meeting, both sides discussed areas of mutual interest including bilateral collaboration to harness the potential of digital media to promote shared history, values and culture.
They also held discussion on evolving media and digital media landscapes and its crucial role in shaping public perceptions, and serving as a powerful tool for communication in the modern age.
Jemal Beker highlighted the initiatives of mainstream and digital media in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to inform the global citizens about its true image by introducing its rich history, diverse culture, multi-faceted #tourism and national values.
He said Ethiopia is a third diplomatic hub with the headquarters of African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa are placed in Addis Ababa, that shows political, economic and cultural significance of Ethiopia in the African continent.
The Ambassador said PM Abiy Ahmed has been leading the initiative of establishing a dedicated media house in Africa to tell the continent’s story through the African perspective.
He said Ethiopia and Pakistan shared history, culture and social values which presented an opportunity for the people of both the countries to strengthen their relations in diverse areas such as business, trade, investment, tourism and culture.
On the other hand, the SAPM on Digital Media assured the Ambassador of full support to harness the digital media potential for bringing the two nations more closely.
He said the Government of Pakistan valued its relationship with Ethiopia and has been working under the Look Africa and Engage Africa policy to enhance its cooperation with all the African countries including Ethiopia.
