Federal Police chief conferred with Presidential Cooperation Medal from Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan

Addis Ababa, November 26, 2024 (FBC) – The Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, General Demelash Geber-Michael, has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Cooperation by the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit.

This recognition was granted in acknowledgment of General Demelash’s efforts in fostering police-to-police cooperation between the two nations and combating transnational crimes.

Additionally, General Demelash facilitated educational and training opportunities for members of the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) at the Ethiopian Police University. This initiative aimed to enhance the capacity of senior officers and support the South Sudanese police reform process.

Recall that General Demelash and his delegation travelled to Juba on Sunday for working visit.

The presidential medal award ceremony was attended by South Sudan’s Minister of Presidential Affairs, Ambassador Chol Maute, the Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan, Nabil Mahdi, and the South Sudan Police Inspector General, Atem Marol Biar.

This ceremony signifies the strong cooperation between Ethiopia and South Sudan in the field of law enforcement and their shared commitment to combating transnational crimes. It also highlights the importance of capacity building and police reform in achieving peace and stability in the region.
