Ethiopia stresses the need to expedite SACA’s implementation to enhance AUC’s operational efficiency
Addis Ababa, November 26, 2024 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation, headed by State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, participated in the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, held virtually on November 25, 2024.
The meeting was convened as per the directives of the 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council held in Accra, Ghana, on July 15-16, 2024. It aimed to review the implementation of the African Union Skills Assessment and Competence Audit (SACA) process, address audit-related matters, and consider Africa’s strategic priorities following the AU’s historic admission to the G20 as a Permanent Member.
During the session, extensive discussions were held on the SACA process.
Ambassador Mesganu Arga emphasized the importance of adhering to previous policy decisions on the matter.
He highlighted that the SACA process is designed to facilitate internal staff redeployment based on skills and competence, underscoring the need to expedite its implementation to enhance the Commission’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.
The session also reviewed the AU Commission’s report on the Union’s participation in the G20 Leaders’ Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 18-19, 2024. The Council endorsed the report and commended the AU for successfully representing Africa’s interests on the global stage.
On the occasion, delegates called for sustained efforts to amplify Africa’s voice in international forums.
The delegations also congratulated South Africa on assuming the G20 Presidency of the group, urging close collaboration with the AU to advance Africa’s priorities during its term.
The session concluded with the adoption of various key decisions, reaffirming the AU’s commitment to strengthening its internal processes and global influence.
